Top Ten Tuesday – Hidden Gems

img_0452-1If you didn’t already know what Top Ten Tuesday was about, every week you are given a topic and you then create a top ten list in response to that topic. Top Ten Tuesday was created by the gals over at The Broke and Bookish. Check them out, their blog is pretty cool. If you’re interested or want to learn more click here for a look at their Top Ten Tuesday page.

I’m very excited about this week’s topic because I’m so excited to see what everyone includes in their list. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the big name books and series but I sometimes get tired of hearing about the same books over and over again… Unless it’s like you know, Harry Potter. But hearing about books that I had no idea existed or know next to nothing about is so exciting because when I’m done all I want to do is shout from the mountain tops that that particular book is awesome. This is especially true for books with little fame because popular books will get read but there is something about a book that’s unknown that makes you want to push it into the hands of every person you meet.

ForbiddenWish_BOM.inddThe Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury – I read this book last year and I loved it so much. I have a review on it. I don’t hear much about it around the book community and I wish I did. I know many are going to be picking it up for the upcoming DivereAThon and I hope you enjoy it. Review here.

Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh – Ugh another book that I really loved and have a review for. This was really good and unique because its set in prehistoric times with some Pride and Prejudice elements. Review here.

The Matchmaker’s Playbook by Rachel Van Dyken – If you’re looking for a romcom that will have you laughing into the wee hours of the night… THIS IS THE BOOK. I literally almost feel off my treadmill. LITERALLY. It’s that funny. And if you buy the eBook through Amazon it’s part of their Kindle in Motion which includes animation and videos. It really enhances the reading experience.

Your Irresistible Love (The Bennett Family) – I’m recommending the series as a whole which is four books in so far. It’s one of those series where there’s a huge family of siblings that find love one by one. Each book follows a member of the Bennett family as they fall in love. This series is funny and very sweet. Also it has next to no angst which is a breath of fresh air.

6369113Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor – Hahahahaha you probably thought I couldn’t fit a Laini Taylor book in this list. I’m actually pretty proud of myself. Shameless I know. Anyway, this book includes three short but amazing stories all gravitating around kisses and affects they might have.

The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter – They don’t call Angela Carter the literary godmother for nothing! I picked this up last year on a whim and really enjoyed it.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray – I read this trilogy ages upon ages ago but at the time I remember thinking that I had never read anything like it. I don’t hear many people talk about it know and maybe its because the trilogy is kind of old but I really enjoyed it at the time I read it.

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne – A post apocalyptic novel about 14 kids that get stuck together in a supermarket. This was so much better than I thought it would be when I first read it and I wish I’d written notes because I would’ve loved to write a detailed review on it.

21411058Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven – This book destroyed my heart into itty bitty little pieces, stomped on said pieces then proceeded to use a flame thrower to make sure nothing was left behind. So of course I’d want you to read it.

Storm by Brigid Kemmerer – This book sort of blew up a few month ago or maybe like a year ago in tumblr. I read it and enjoyed it. I unfortunately haven’t read the rest of the series, which I hear gets better and better. But other than in the tumblr community I haven’t heard much talk about it.

What are some books that you consider hidden gems? Let me know so I can add them to my never ending pile lol. Till next time!
