Goodreads Description: The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.
Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.
Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she’d marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong-maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.
After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?
“I’d broken into his house, but he’d somehow broken into me, cracked me wide open, exposing me to so much more of life than what had existed before.”
Dirty is the first book in Kylie Scott’s new series Dive Bar. This is a book that I’ve been wanting to pick up for a really long time. I remember enjoying Kylie Scott’s other series Stage Dive and now that I’m writing this I’ve realized that I never got to the last book in that series?! How does that happen? No worried cause it’s a companion series so I’ll pick it up eventually. Okay I’ll try to stay focus. All random rambles aside, if you haven’t picked up the Stage Dive series do so. It is really good. But like I was saying, I read her other series a while ago, and when I saw she had a new series out I know I had to check it out.
What do you do when you find out the man you’re about to marry is cheating on you? Well run away and hide in a stranger’s bathroom of course. That’s the situation that we find Lydia in. Lydia is a very likable character. She’s very funny and sassy. I loved her inner dialogue, it had me cracking up more often than not. I like that she didn’t let the events of her almost wedding day completely ruin her. She let herself be angry, sad and humiliated by the situation but she quickly picked herself up and tried to move on. I really admire that. Vaughan has no desire to stay in town. After the death of his parents, it’s painful to be back in this hometown. His band fell apart and he can’t seem to let go of his dreams of becoming famous. He’s going through a lot personally and in comes this woman (right through the bathroom window to be exact) and turns his world upside down.
“Do you believe in crazy at first sight?”
Lydia and Vaughan are instantly attracted to one another and fall into an easy friendship. They were very sweet and funny together. I will say that even though they call it ‘crazy at first sight’ it felt very insta-lovey to me.
The ending was SUPER rushed and cheesy. I wasn’t a fan but I enjoyed the book overall. I will say that I’m very interested in the other characters introduced in this first installment. The drama is A1 guys. I was so ready for the second book to then find out that it’s not out yet. Super bummed about that.
